Rob, there are pages of opinions and experiences when installing the supertrapp if you looks down the forum listings. Seems like each bike is some differences (80's seem richer than the 90's versions) and there seems to be individual drivers need for more get up and go. As a general rule, install the muffler with the number of discs you want to run. More discs = more HP and noise, less discs = more torque, some more HP and less noise.$ seems to be close to no changes needed. Decide what you want, then run the bike at road speed and carefully while looking where you are going slide the cold enricher out to the first click and see if the engine seems to run better. If it does ir probably could use more fuel, this is accomplished at midthrottle by raising the needle in the slide, by removing the famed white spacer and putting the carb back together and testing again. If it is too rich(soot in the tailpipe), try a washer 1/2 the thickness of the spacer added back in and try again. Unless you have access to a shop with a dyno and the bucks to have it set up by them, testing over and over is the solution. Also the idle mixture plug will need to be removed and the idle mixture corrected for the new exhaust. All this comes with the caveat that it is against EPA regs to do the above unless you use a 4 gas anaylzer so the emissions are not higher than allowed. I found after trying a variety of exhaust$ that I liked the low end torque and deep sound so am running a longer double wall headpipe and stock HD glasspac type muffler with center baffle intact. White spacer is in, a different pilot jet is in the low speed idle mixture is adjusted to lean side of best. Works for me. Be sure to use the included antisieze on the baffle screw threads and get the discs sorted out before the insert threads corrode and cause them to pull out. Mine has at least one that is ruined. Guess I should contact ST and see if they have a fix it kit so I can fix and sell the muffler as I'm not using it. Enjoy the ST and your Savage. BTW, the chart showing the HP change at 60MPH (no gear specified, chart goes to 80 MPH and falls off so maybe 4th on mid 80's series) Ad shows a light colored bike (probably 96 yellow according to the tank and side cover decals and as the 80's bikes tended towards black or darker metallic colors) which would be a 5 speed, but the advertising department could have used a employees bike for the picture.
